Where I'm at with the white t-shirt search

Written by CLAIRE HOLT | Jun 5, 2025

Over the past few months, a lot of you have asked me the same question: Did you ever find the perfect white t-shirt?

Short answer: not really.

Long answer: it’s coming.

It all started at dinner with one of my best friends, Maddy. I was bitching about the floppy sleeves on my white tee, and she was annoyed at the shitty quality of the expensive one she’d just bought online. I told her I was going to reach out to my followers to see if they’d cracked the code. I bought a few, she bought a few, then we both bought a LOT more.

Somewhere along the way, it became a hyperfixation.

I’m now stuck with a pile of tees destined to become tie-dye projects for my kids, and a growing list of “almosts.” The ones that were more affordable didn’t feel the way I wanted them to. Wrong shape, weird fabric, too sheer, too thick, too cropped, too long. It always felt like settling.

Some were well made but crazy expensive. Like, $150-for-a-t-shirt expensive (this will NOT be included in said project). And listen, I get the whole “cost per wear” thing because it’s how I justify my larger purchases, but something about that price point never sat right with me. What’s frustrating is that it feels like we’re stuck between two not great options: either spend a shit ton or buy something that won’t last, which just forces you to keep buying more, more, more.

And that’s led us here. Attempting to build our very own brand. To quote my favorite influencer Mads Mitchell:

“How hard can it be, boys do it”

Right now we’re deep in development, learning about things like fabric sourcing, fit grading, and why manufacturing is both fascinating and wildly complicated (take a shot every time someone says the word tariff). We don’t have a launch date yet, but I wanted to let you know now. Before it’s polished, before we have all the answers.

This isn’t some marketing gimmick or a cutesy way to launch a product.

We’re trying to make pieces that feel thoughtful and elevated, but still easy. Chic but not offensively priced. Great fitting tees for different bodies, different days, and different phases *cough* luteal. Pieces you can wear with jeans, or under a blazer, or over your swimsuit on the way to the beach. One that doesn't have to be tossed after a battle with some marinara.

So here’s where I ask you: what do you expect from the perfect t-shirt? What annoys you about the ones you have? Should we all get together for some Tee Parties? (I’ll show myself out).

This is so new for me. A little terrifying but also really exciting. I’m at a point where I’m done holding myself back from pursuing things that are meaningful, even if they’re scary. You don’t get what you don’t ask for. And you don’t build your perfect wardrobe by compromising on the basics.

I hope you’ll come along for the ride.

xx

That is such a great idea very excited about this !!! A common issue that I find, is for the ones that are pretty tight to the body, this industry don’t take into consideration that we all have different size of breast, need every women to feel comfortable in those T-shirt !

I like when my white shirt is slightly fitted and hits right at the top of my zipper so that I can tuck in a few bits and n the front and the rest artfully hangs out!

I like when the length hits just the top of my mid rise jeans so I don’t need to tuck in but it’s also not too cropped. See through bothers me. I have tried so many that I love the cut and feel of but they’re just too see through.

I LOVE this brand on Amazon, Amoretu. I love the fabric, how it lays, but it’s too long. So, I knot it in the back for the perfect fit. I wish I didn’t have to knot it, but I do have it in 6 colors and multiples in black and white. 😉 It’s SO close!

Great idea! What annoys me about the ones I have:

    • colar is too wide, and necklaces always creep under the shirt
    • poor quality
    • too boxy
    • see through

Round neck, close fitting around chest and slightly looser around the belly, not too long, not too short, able to dress up or down! Sleeves not too tight not too loose.. UK poster here so please make available to us too! I’ve been hunting for the perfect white tee for years ❤️

After creating the perfect t-shirt, could you please give the perfect white tank top a go next? I’ve been searching for ages. Everything out there is either too sheer, too long, too synthetic, or just not flattering for us small-chested girlies.

That’s great. I’m most annoyed when it’s: see-through, fabric to thin, or when the shirt is to short. Most white T-shirts for men seem perfect for men. Why isn’t there one for us?! I want one of those, but flattering with boobs :)

I just wanted to say I found the crispiest white t shirt at old navy recently! I got the vintage tee style!

Try UNIQULO! I have multiple white shirts from there and they are perfect!

Sounds great!! My favorite shirt would be thick enough to me see-through but not too thick for summer days. Not boxy but not skin-thight. Not cropped but not too long. Sleeves but no boy-shirt-long and wide sleeves. Round collar but not to high. It should be white and not some yellowish offwhite color. And full or high percentage of cotton fabric.
    I would absolutely buy it!

Not clingy, keeps shape but is SOFT and easy to wash. Also, not too high your boobs are at the halfway point but not too low your showing cleavage and feel like you have to pull it up all the time.

I want a white tee that is comfortable and I don’t have to wear with a bra. But also structured enough that I could wear it with a nice outfit if I wanted to.

Nothing see through. Nothing cropped or too tight on the arms. Looser fit and not a high neck. Super soft would be great!
