Where I'm at with the white t-shirt search

Written by CLAIRE HOLT | Jun 5, 2025

Over the past few months, a lot of you have asked me the same question: Did you ever find the perfect white t-shirt?

Short answer: not really.

Long answer: it’s coming.

It all started at dinner with one of my best friends, Maddy. I was bitching about the floppy sleeves on my white tee, and she was annoyed at the shitty quality of the expensive one she’d just bought online. I told her I was going to reach out to my followers to see if they’d cracked the code. I bought a few, she bought a few, then we both bought a LOT more.

Somewhere along the way, it became a hyperfixation.

I’m now stuck with a pile of tees destined to become tie-dye projects for my kids, and a growing list of “almosts.” The ones that were more affordable didn’t feel the way I wanted them to. Wrong shape, weird fabric, too sheer, too thick, too cropped, too long. It always felt like settling.

Some were well made but crazy expensive. Like, $150-for-a-t-shirt expensive (this will NOT be included in said project). And listen, I get the whole “cost per wear” thing because it’s how I justify my larger purchases, but something about that price point never sat right with me. What’s frustrating is that it feels like we’re stuck between two not great options: either spend a shit ton or buy something that won’t last, which just forces you to keep buying more, more, more.

And that’s led us here. Attempting to build our very own brand. To quote my favorite influencer Mads Mitchell:

“How hard can it be, boys do it”

Right now we’re deep in development, learning about things like fabric sourcing, fit grading, and why manufacturing is both fascinating and wildly complicated (take a shot every time someone says the word tariff). We don’t have a launch date yet, but I wanted to let you know now. Before it’s polished, before we have all the answers.

This isn’t some marketing gimmick or a cutesy way to launch a product.

We’re trying to make pieces that feel thoughtful and elevated, but still easy. Chic but not offensively priced. Great fitting tees for different bodies, different days, and different phases *cough* luteal. Pieces you can wear with jeans, or under a blazer, or over your swimsuit on the way to the beach. One that doesn't have to be tossed after a battle with some marinara.

So here’s where I ask you: what do you expect from the perfect t-shirt? What annoys you about the ones you have? Should we all get together for some Tee Parties? (I’ll show myself out).

This is so new for me. A little terrifying but also really exciting. I’m at a point where I’m done holding myself back from pursuing things that are meaningful, even if they’re scary. You don’t get what you don’t ask for. And you don’t build your perfect wardrobe by compromising on the basics.

I hope you’ll come along for the ride.

xx

I HATE when the threads start to unravel on the seams of the arms and waist !!! No loose threads!!!

Love this! So needed! Thank you for considering price point. White t-shirts are a closet staple but see wear and tear quickly, making higher price points tough to justify. I would love to see a boxy crop tee that is casual but could be elevated/chic/professional. (Non-see through fabric, crisp, some structure.) No midriff, but cropped enough to show a little zipper. Please, please, no drop shoulder seam. It is so unflattering. I need a t-shirt that has a seam that hits at the shoulder and helps give my upper body some shape.

how about a customisable one? i read a lot of comments and realised that different people are looking for slightly different things so maybe the basics of the tshirt should be the same like the way it fits you and isn’t see through but the neck line could be customisable as some people want round, some v, material could also be an option like maybe 100% cotton or nylon or whatever other materials are used

either way, i trust you’re going to build something awesome and i wish you luck with this project!

So excited for this and if anyone can do it, it’s you!!! I would love a white t shirt thats not cropped but also not too long. My issue with most shirts are that a small is the perfect length for me but the sleeves are always too tight and a medium is usually too long but they have a bigger arm hole. So a size medium thats not overly long with the right sleeve size would be great! Also, The non see thru ones tend to be too boxy and the better fitting ones are always more see thru unfortunately. Good luck!!! Cant wait to purchase the perfect white tshirt!

Great idea! Please make the perfect T! Quality materials, cotton, soft, not see through, not cropped, not too long, sleeves that fit just right. I love men tees, I don’t understand why they change the shape/fit when making them for women?!

YES! Not see through, soft and drapey- not tight and not boxy, not a tight neck, doesn’t shrink when you wash and dry it (no one has time to lay flat to dry give us a break please lol) and I don’t care about sleeve length but I don’t want it to be tight in the armpit. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I want a tee that isn’t tight, especially around the arms, and the sleeves can’t be too short. I’m a short girl so the tee can’t be too long lol. Why are they always see through though, WHY?!

When plain t-shirts are so thin that you can see through them. I don’t want to show off my bra, or have to wear a tank top underneath a t-shirt. Why I usually end up with Carhartt tees.

Based on earlier comments, I may be the only one but I prefer a true crew neckline, sitting above my collarbone. Honestly, go try out fabrics from men’s tshirts. My husband’s white tees always look so nice, good crisp but soft fabric. Like Jcrew. I’m with the others, a tad longer sleeve mid-way to elbow. Not too long that it makes it too casual though. Good luck! For price, if it’s anactually amazing fit and long lasting quality, I’d pay up to $85 (including shipping obviously)

This is the best idea ever and you will have my business! Mom of two little ones and this is necessary. My white Ts get discolored and faded so easily I refuse to invest in another one unless it’s perfect

fitted, but loose. thin, but not transparent. makes you feel expensive, affordable. True test: be able to wear a weird colored bra underneath and not get looks

I hate when your new tee fits perfect when you try it on then when you wash it it’s like 6 inches shorter. I’m it super tall but I like to have the option to tuck if I want and ain’t no one want to see my belly when I reach onto the top shelf to get something.
